Ruben Amorim’s future at Manchester United has come under intense scrutiny following the club’s embarrassing Carabao Cup exit at the hands of League Two outfit Grimsby Town. The shock defeat has left fans furious and the board deeply concerned about the direction of the team under the Portuguese coach.

Reports suggest that former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Newcastle boss Eddie Howe are among the top names being considered should the club decide to part ways with Amorim. Their potential return or arrival is being widely debated across media platforms, sparking discussions about whether either of them could steady the ship at Old Trafford.

Although talkSPORT revealed that Amorim’s dismissal is not imminent, the growing discontent among supporters cannot be ignored. Many believe he has failed to deliver progress since succeeding Erik ten Hag in November last year. His reign has so far been marked by inconsistency and underwhelming results that have only deepened United’s struggles.

Last season ended disastrously, with the Red Devils recording their worst-ever Premier League finish while also falling short in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur. Those setbacks increased the pressure on Amorim to deliver immediate improvements this campaign, but his side has once again faltered with two early defeats and a frustrating draw in the opening fixtures.

Adding to the uncertainty, Amorim has made troubling remarks about his own mindset, confessing: “Sometimes I want to quit, sometimes I want to be here for 20 years.” His candid admission has raised questions about his commitment and emotional stability to handle one of the toughest jobs in world football.

Critics have also pointed to his stubborn tactical approach, claiming he often refuses to adapt or experiment when things go wrong. That rigidity, combined with disappointing results, has only fueled calls for change from a fanbase eager to see United restored to its former glory.

Bookmakers have now placed Amorim among the favourites to be the next Premier League manager dismissed, highlighting how precarious his position has become. With expectations sky-high and pressure mounting from all angles, Manchester United could soon be forced into making another major managerial decision sooner rather than later.
