Arsenal have officially announced that their winger, Reiss Nelson, has signed a new contract to extend his stay with the club. The previous agreement was set to expire this summer, fueling speculation of a potential departure from his childhood club. However, towards the end of last season, both parties reached an agreement on a new four-year deal.
Having joined Arsenal at the age of eight, Reiss Nelson will now remain with the London club until 2027 following the signing of his new contract. Arsenal's coach, Mikel Arteta, expressed his admiration for the player, emphasizing his remarkable abilities and exciting offensive talent. Arteta highlighted Nelson's importance to the squad and expressed his delight at the player's commitment to the club, considering his deep-rooted connection and upbringing within Arsenal.
Despite interest from AC Milan and Brighton, Nelson ultimately chose to continue his journey with Arsenal. It is believed that Mikel Arteta played a pivotal role in the negotiations, persuading Nelson to stay. The new contract is reportedly worth £100,000 per week over four years, with an option for an additional year.
During the previous season, the 23-year-old Nelson made significant contributions to Arsenal's pursuit of the league title, which has now been rewarded with his improved contract. Although he faced limited playing time in his first full season under Arteta, Nelson was loaned to Feyenoord in 2021-22. Since his return, his performances have impressed the manager, leading to the decision to extend his contract.
Nelson, a London native, joined Arsenal's academy while still in primary school and scored his first goal for the club in 2020. He had to wait until October 2022 to add another goal to his tally, but his dedication and progress have earned him a prolonged stay at his beloved club.
