Nigerian football sensation Victor Osimhen has achieved a remarkable milestone in his career by becoming the first African player to win the coveted Serie A golden boot in the league's 125-year history. Osimhen's accomplishment came after he played a significant role in Napoli's 2-0 victory over Sampdoria on the final day of the Serie A season, which took place on Sunday, June 4.

During the match, Osimhen opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the second half, securing his 26th league goal of the season. This outstanding performance not only contributed to Napoli's win but also established Osimhen as Serie A's highest-scoring African player of all time. Additionally, his 26 goals earned him the prestigious Serie A golden boot, awarded to the top goal scorer in the league for a given season.

Napoli's triumph in Serie A this season marked their first league title in 33 years, and the team was presented with the trophy on the final day of the campaign. With a total of 90 points, Napoli finished the season on a high note, achieving their second-highest tally in Serie A history, just one point shy of their record under Maurizio Sarri five years ago.

By clinching the golden boot, Osimhen not only surpassed his childhood idol George Weah, who currently serves as the President of Liberia, but also became the highest-scoring African player in Serie A with an impressive tally of 50 league goals. Moreover, Osimhen became the first player in the Italian league to combine the golden boot award with the Serie A title since Zlatan Ibrahimovic accomplished the feat in 2009.

The match against Sampdoria also marked the final game for both Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti, who announced his intention to take a sabbatical, and Sampdoria manager Dejan Stankovic, who revealed before kick-off that he would not be leading the team in Serie B next season.
