Manchester United is contemplating a loan move for winger Amad Diallo in the upcoming January transfer window, with Southampton emerging as the frontrunners to secure his services.
Currently under the management of Russell Martin, Southampton is eager to finalize a loan deal for the Ivorian player, having expressed interest during the summer transfer window, which was disrupted by a knee injury.
Situated fourth in the Championship, Southampton's competitive standing makes them an appealing choice for Diallo's developmental prospects.
According to Football Insider, Manchester United is open to loaning out Diallo, and Southampton's bid is likely to be accepted.
Diallo, who joined Manchester United from Atalanta in January 2021 for a reported £37 million, has had limited playing time, making nine appearances and scoring once across all competitions.
Prior to his move to Manchester United, Diallo had a successful stint at Atalanta, scoring once in five senior appearances. He also had loan spells at Rangers, where he scored three goals in 13 appearances, and Sunderland in the Championship during the 2022/23 season, where he scored 14 goals in 42 appearances.
At just 21 years old, Diallo has represented the Ivory Coast national team, scoring once in four appearances since his debut in 2021. He has been named in the Ivory Coast preliminary 40-man squad for the upcoming 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.
