This triumph marked City's debut in the competition, adding to their illustrious achievements, having clinched the Champions League in the previous season.

In the semi-final clash, City showcased their dominance by defeating Urawa Red Diamonds 3-0, paving the way for a final showdown with Fluminense, the Copa Libertadores champions, featuring former Real Madrid star Marcelo in their lineup.

City's explosive start saw Alvarez capitalizing on a defensive error just 40 seconds into the game, marking his ninth goal of the season across all competitions. With Erling Haaland absent due to FIFA regulations, Alvarez assumed a pivotal role in City's attacking prowess against Fluminense.

Guardiola's men further solidified their lead in the 27th minute when Foden's shot deflected off Nino, finding the back of the net as an own goal. In the early stages of the second half, Foden added his name to the scoresheet, and Alvarez sealed the victory with his second goal.

The Club World Cup title signifies City's fifth trophy in 2023, building on their earlier successes in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Super Cup.
