Italy have officially called up Juventus defender Federico Gatti to replace injured Giorgio Scalvini and Francesco Acerbi ahead of the Euro 2024.
Acerbi, a veteran with Inter Milan, withdrew from the Azzurri squad last week to undergo surgery for persistent groin issues.
The Italian team’s defensive woes deepened when Scalvini suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during Atalanta’s final Serie A match against Fiorentina.
Scalvini’s injury is expected to see him sidelined for the rest of the year.
In response, head coach Luciano Spalletti has called up Gatti, who will join the squad at Coverciano on Monday to begin preparations for the tournament.
The 25-year-old centre-back has previously earned three caps for Italy, with his last appearance being in the 5-2 win over North Macedonia in November.
