The decisive moment arrived in the 88th minute when a corner kick from Lionel Messi led to a shot by Nicolás González, blocked by Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.
Martínez reacted swiftly to the rebound, scoring his second goal of the competition.
His goal, Martínez’s 26th for Argentina, was confirmed following a three-minute VAR review.
Argentina dominated the match with 21 shots compared to Chile’s three, and they also earned 11 corner kicks while Chile had none.
Earlier in the game, Messi came close to scoring with a powerful 30-yard shot that struck the post in the 36th minute.
With six points, Argentina leads Group A, followed by Canada with three points, and Chile and Peru with one point each.
Argentina’s next match will be against Peru in Miami Gardens, Florida, on Saturday, while Canada will face Chile in Orlando.
