Joshua Zirkzee made a dream debut for Manchester United, scoring a crucial late goal in their Premier League opener to secure a 1-0 victory.
The £36.5 million signing from Bologna was brought on as a 60th-minute substitute with the game still scoreless and chances unconverted by Bruno Fernandes. Despite United’s dominance, the team struggled to break through, with Fernandes missing two of their best opportunities.
Zirkzee made his mark in the 87th minute. The play began deep in United’s half, where Casemiro made a decisive pass to Alejandro Garnacho on the right wing. Garnacho delivered a low cross into the box, and Zirkzee stretched out to flick the ball into the net with his left foot, much to the delight of the United fans.
This late goal provided much-needed relief for manager Erik ten Hag, who had been under increasing pressure as the match seemed destined for a frustrating draw. The goal secured a vital win for United in their opening Premier League fixture.
Meanwhile, Fulham had their moments, with Adama Traore making several dangerous runs on the wing. However, they were unable to capitalize on their chances. Tete also had a bicycle kick saved by Andre Onana in the second half, but Fulham could not find the back of the net.
