Senator Abdulaziz Yari has expressed his disappointment and feelings of betrayal after losing the senate presidency seat to Senator Godswill Akpabio. Akpabio emerged as the Senate President of the 10th National Assembly, defeating Yari with a vote count of 63 against Yari's 46 votes. Yari had hoped to secure 61 out of the 109 votes, which would have ensured his victory. In an interview with journalists in Abuja, Yari acknowledged the presence of betrayal in the outcome of the election, noting that the initial vote count gave them confidence with over 76 votes. However, the expected support did not materialize, leaving him feeling let down. Despite the setback, Yari acknowledged that life goes on and described the political process as a cyclical one. The 10th National Assembly was inaugurated on June 13, 2023, succeeding the 9th National Assembly. In terms of party representation, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) secured 57 seats, while the major opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), won 29 seats. Other parties represented include All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) with 1 seat, Labour Party (LP) with 6 seats, New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) with 2 seats, Social Democratic Party (SDP) with 2 seats, and Young Progressive Party (YPP) with 1 seat.
