Justice Nicole Clay of the Lagos State High Court has issued a ruling to discharge and acquit three individuals who were detained in connection with their involvement in the #EndSARS protest.
The announcement was made by a civic group, Take-It-Back Movement, which expressed gratitude to the Lagos State chapter of the movement for their diligent efforts in handling the legal cases and ensuring a favorable outcome.
However, the group lamented that approximately 10 more #ENDSARS protesters remain incarcerated, and they are actively working towards securing their release as well.
The recently freed #EndSARS detainees were legally represented by Barrister Ogunlana.
In an update shared on its X handle, the movement announced the release, stating: “After a year-long legal intervention by the TIB, Court discharges and acquits three #EndSARS detainees – Sunday Okoro, Olumide Fatai, and Oluwole Yisa.
“Great appreciation to our Lagos team who stayed on the case. #RevolutionNow.”

The #End SARS movement emerged in October 2020 as a decentralised social movement and series of mass protests against police brutality in Nigeria.
The movement's primary demand was the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, a notorious unit of the Nigerian Police known for its long history of abusing Nigerian citizens.
Throughout the movement, some protesters were apprehended for allegedly inciting violence in an otherwise peaceful environment, while others were purportedly shot dead by Nigerian soldiers attempting to quell the protests.
