Renowned Nigerian political activist and the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 general elections, Omoyele Sowore, has disclosed the reason behind his decision not to align with The Labour Party. He asserts that the Labour Party shares striking similarities in ideology with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a two-minute video shared on his X account on Wednesday, Sowore expressed his reservations about joining the Labour Party, emphasizing their ideological parallels with the APC and PDP.
He stated, "I often tell the Labour Party people that they are not different from the PDP and APC. We often argue because they are very visible on social media. And they would attack us all the time. So, one time that they reached me, asking me to join them, I said I can’t join the Labour Party—for a number of reasons."
Sowore criticized the Labour Party, characterizing it as a party without workers and likening it to a short-term rental where occupants are eventually forced out. He cited historical examples, including the tenure of the former governor of Ondo State, Segun Mimiko, who was associated with the party.
Addressing the post-2023 election scenario, Sowore pointed out that the Labour Party, after feeling cheated out of the system, became vocal advocates for revolution. He commented on the potential actions of political figures like Tinubu and Atiku, asserting, "What Tinubu is doing now is what Atiku would have done if he had become president."
In conclusion, Sowore highlighted the challenge of collaborating with individuals or parties that oppose his ideology and existence, underscoring the importance of aligning with those who share common values.
