A new wave of controversy has erupted after human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of secretly owning multiple properties abroad. According to Sowore, the former Rivers State governor allegedly has three luxury properties in Winter Springs, Florida, United States, which he claims were acquired through questionable means.
This allegation comes at a time when rumors have been circulating about Wike’s reported hospitalization overseas, adding fuel to the political buzz surrounding him. The revelation has already sparked heated discussions across social and political circles in Nigeria.
Sowore Alleges Wike Owns Properties Through Wife’s Name
In a detailed Facebook post shared on September 20, 2025, Sowore alleged that the Florida properties were not directly documented in Wike’s name but instead registered under his wife, who currently serves as a respected Court of Appeal judge in Nigeria. According to Sowore, this was a deliberate move to conceal ownership and avoid scrutiny.
The activist further revealed that he has contacted the Office of the Attorney General of Florida, James Uthmeier, to formally notify authorities in the United States about the alleged properties. Sowore insists that the acquisitions were made with embezzled public funds laundered through offshore channels, amounting to what he describes as “first-class felonies.”
“We have already contacted the Office of the Attorney General of Florida, James Uthmeier, to notify them that Nyesom Ezenwo Wike – CON, GSSRS, has laundered stolen funds (proceeds of crime) to purchase and traffic properties in their state, which are first-class felonies,” Sowore wrote.

The explosive allegations have triggered a flood of reactions online, with Nigerians taking to various platforms to share their thoughts. While some hailed Sowore’s boldness in exposing corruption, others warned that the confrontation could spiral into a prolonged political battle.
