Vice-President Kashim Shettima has expressed his support for Senator Godswill Akpabio's bid to become the 10th President of the Senate. Shettima emphasized the importance of equity, justice, and fairness, stating that the third highest-ranking official in the country should be a Christian, considering Nigeria's multi-ethnic and multi-religious composition. He pledged to personally appeal to fellow senators, even going as far as kneeling down, to request their support for Akpabio and Senator Barau Jibrin to lead the 10th Assembly. The declaration was made during an interaction with senators from various political parties held in Abuja.

Shettima stressed that Nigeria currently has a Muslim president and a Muslim vice-president, and in the interest of inclusivity, there should be religious diversity in the top leadership positions. He expressed his willingness to humble himself and implore his colleagues for the sake of the nation's survival. He emphasized the need to transcend divisions and prioritize what unites the nation, while also advocating for fair representation and inclusivity in governance. Shettima urged senators to consider the perception and optics of their decisions, asserting that the stability, inclusivity, and unity of the country should take precedence over personal interests and ambitions.

Senator Ali Ndume, speaking in support of Akpabio, highlighted the backing of 73 individuals in the stability group for the Akpabio/Barau ticket. Ndume emphasized their commitment to supporting the administration, working alongside President Bola Tinubu to ensure the stability of Nigeria. He praised the president's approachability and people-oriented leadership, expressing confidence in the administration's ability to bring positive change to the nation. Similarly, Senator Barau Jibrin thanked Vice-President Shettima for his dedicated commitment to realizing the party's endorsements for the leadership positions in the National Assembly. He recognized that the vice-president's dedication transcended individual interests and was aimed at promoting stability, peaceful coexistence, and the progress of the nation.
