In a recent development, former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has made a call to the state government, urging him to take action against Former Governor Nasir El-Rufai regarding the significant debt profile of the state.
Shehu Sani, the former lawmaker, in a post shared on X urged Governor Uba Sani [/b]to establish an independent probe panel to thoroughly investigate the previous administration’s role in the accumulation of the substantial debt that the state is currently facing.
You may recall that Governor Uba had mentioned that he inherited a considerable debt burden from the previous administration.
According to him, a debt of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities were inherited.
Uba stated this while speaking at a Town Hall meeting over the weekend in Kaduna.
The governor said the huge debt profile has made it difficult for him to pay workers’ salaries.
However, Sani stressed that the current Kaduna State government can’t remedy the situation alone.
Sani stated, “The looting of Kaduna State cannot be remedied by revelations alone but by courageously constituting a probe panel headed by an independent professional accountant or auditor who will invite;
“…and investigate ex-government officials and their proxy contractors to account for the millions in dollars and billions in Naira that were misused or outrightly stolen, including the $350 million loan.
“Kaduna State is at its hour of reckoning with the truth I foretold and the truth for which I was vilified,” he said.
Meanwhile, Hajia Maryam Suleiman, the suspended women leader of the APC in Kaduna state, had on Monday criticized Governor Uba Sani, accusing him of being disloyal to his predecessor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
Hajia Maryam Suleiman in a viral video recounted how in 2019, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai made numerous trips, nearly 500 times, to the APC headquarters in Abuja to lobby party leaders and ensure that Uba Sani would become the representative of the Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly.
Hajia Maryam, speaking in Hausa, highlighted how El-Rufai put up a strong fight and took risks to remove former Senator Shehu Sani in order to pave the way for Uba Sani, who was seen as a loyal candidate at that time.
