Seyi Makinde re-elected as Oyo Governor

[p]Seyi Makinde, the incumbent Governor of Oyo State in Nigeria, was declared the winner of the governorship election held on Saturday, March 18. The announcement was made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). According to the results declared, Makinde won the election by polling a total of 563,756 votes. His closest rival, Teslim Folarin of the All Progressive Congress (APC), scored 256,685 votes, while Adebayo Adelabu of the Accord Party scored 38,357 votes.[/b]

Makinde's victory was not only overwhelming in terms of the total number of votes he polled but also in terms of the number of local government areas he won. He won 31 out of the 33 local government areas in the state. Folarin won only two local governments of Irepo and Ore-lope.

The state Returning Officer, Olusola Kehinde, who announced Makinde’s victory, said, “That Makinde Oluseyi having satisfied the requirement of the law is declared winner of the poll.”
