According to the announcement made on Monday by the State Commissioner for Information and Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the program is tailored to increase opportunities and foster advancement across critical sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, small and medium-scale enterprises, commerce, and other areas that rely on modern digital infrastructure. He emphasized that access to free, reliable internet will empower individuals, enhance productivity, and open new pathways for innovation.

In its initial rollout phase, the Imole Wi-Fi service will be strategically deployed in key government buildings and notable public spaces. Among these pioneer sites are the Osun State Library, Alphastart Hub, Osun Mall, Salvation Army Middle School, Osogbo Grammar School, as well as facilities within the Ministry of Innovation, Science, Technology, and Digital Economy. These locations were carefully selected to ensure maximum impact, targeting students, professionals, and entrepreneurs who need internet access to thrive in today’s digital world.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, while speaking on the project, described the launch of Imole Wi-Fi as “a gateway to opportunity.” He stressed that the initiative represents more than just internet access — it is a deliberate step toward breaking barriers, connecting people, and stimulating the overall economy of Osun State. The governor reiterated his administration’s resolve to prioritize digital inclusion, ensuring that even those in underserved communities are not left behind in the technological revolution.

The Special Adviser responsible for supervising the project, Azeez Badmus, explained that the launch marks only the first phase of a long-term vision. He noted that as the program continues to expand, additional government services will be digitized and sector-specific tools introduced. These will include platforms for e-learning, telemedicine, agricultural innovations, and e-commerce solutions, ultimately creating a vibrant digital ecosystem accessible to all residents of the state.

Looking ahead, Imole Wi-Fi is expected to spread to more communities, schools, and business hubs, gradually covering every corner of the state. This expansion will firmly establish Osun State as a pioneer of digital inclusion in Nigeria, setting a precedent for other states to follow. By embracing this forward-thinking initiative, Osun is positioning itself at the forefront of technological advancement, empowering its people to compete and succeed in an increasingly connected world.
