Samson Ajayi, has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly rāping his 17-year-old biological daughter over a span of four years in Akure, Ondo State.
Ajayi, who confessed to the crime before the court, claimed he was under the influence of a “generational curse,” alleging that his father had also abused his own daughter.
Police prosecutor, Martins Olowofeso, told the court that the abuse occurred repeatedly between March 2021 and August 2025 at the family’s residence in the Igoba area of Akure. He said the offences contravened provisions of the Ondo State Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law, 2021.
According to the charge sheet:“That you, Samson Ajayi ‘m’ sometimes between July 2021 and August 2025, at Igoba, Akure in the Akure Magisterial district, did have unlawful carnal knowledge of your biological daughter (name withheld), aged 17 years.”
Olowofeso, who supported his application with an 11-paragraph affidavit, urged the court to remand Ajayi in a correctional facility pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Ajayi, however, admitted guilt, saying:“I didn’t know what came over me. I think it’s a generational curse because my father also did it to my sister, his own biological daughter. It was just an act to disgrace me.”
His lawyer, Kehinde Osadugba, pleaded with the court for an out-of-court settlement, arguing that the victim’s mother had forgiven him due to his role as the family’s breadwinner.
Magistrate Taiwo Lebi declined the request, stressing that Ajayi’s confession provided sufficient grounds for remand. He ordered the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and forward it to the DPP for legal advice.
The matter was adjourned to November 20, 2025, for further hearing.
