According to reports from the meeting, Gobir stated that this newly formed group operates under a religious ideology and is reportedly armed with sophisticated weaponry, raising concerns about their capabilities and intentions. He emphasized, “Our assessment shows that LAKURAWAS is active in about five local government areas across the state,” indicating a widespread presence that poses a significant threat to security in the region.

Gobir expressed deep concern over this development, especially given that Sokoto State is already grappling with widespread banditry and other security challenges. He remarked, “The threat is expanding,” underlining the urgency of the situation and the need for immediate and effective countermeasures. In his address, the Deputy Governor highlighted the state’s ongoing collaboration with federal security forces to safeguard lives and properties amidst these rising threats. He emphasized various proactive measures that the state government has implemented to address these security challenges, showcasing a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens. Air Vice Marshal Titus Zuwahu Dauda, who leads the visiting delegation, provided some background on the National Defence College. He noted that the college, founded in 1992, serves as Nigeria’s premier military institution dedicated to training officers from the military, police, and other strategic agencies. Its mission is to prepare these officers for high-level responsibilities in national security and defense. Dauda mentioned that to date, the college has graduated 2,982 participants, including representatives from 30 African and Asian nations, underscoring its significant role in regional security education.

At the conclusion of the study tour, Dauda stated that the delegation would compile and present both an oral and written report on their observations and recommendations. He emphasized that these insights would focus on improving security measures in Sokoto State and enhancing the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to combat the emerging threats posed by groups like LAKURAWAS.
