The Labour Party, LP, is vehemently urging INEC to annul the re-run election held in certain areas of Enugu State due to reported irregularities.
The national secretary of the party, Umar Farouk, who led its monitoring team to polling stations involved in the by-elections on Saturday, expressed discontent with the House of Representatives re-run election in Igbo-Eze/Udenu federal constituency, Enugu State, labeling it a sham and advocating for the complete cancellation of the exercise.
Farouk conveyed to journalists that due process was not adhered to, citing compromised accreditation, hijacked result sheets, disregard for BVAS machines, and the prevention of voters exercising their right to vote.
The LP national secretary, alongside the party’s House of Representatives candidate, Dennis Agbo, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to promptly invalidate elections in areas where irregularities have been reported.
In addition, Dennis Agbo insisted on the immediate and comprehensive cancellation of the supplementary election, accusing the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of leveraging local government vigilantes to intimidate LP supporters.
Agbo alleged that LP members were forcefully expelled from polling booths by the local vigilantes and further claimed that INEC officials took instructions from PDP officials, allowing voting to transpire in private residences.
