The Oyo State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough after rescuing an Egyptian national who was abducted in the Idi-Ayunre area of Ibadan. The daring operation was completed within 24 hours of the victim’s kidnapping, and notably, no ransom was paid to secure his release.
Police spokesperson, CSP Osifeso Adewale, disclosed the details in a press briefing on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. He applauded the officers for their speed, professionalism, and bravery, stressing that the successful rescue highlights the command’s commitment to combating criminal activities in the state. According to him, the mission would not have been possible without effective inter-agency collaboration and intelligence sharing.

In the official statement, CSP Adewale revealed that the operation drew combined strength from operatives of the 4 PMF Ibadan, intelligence and tactical units of the command, and local vigilante groups. Their efforts were further supported by the Ogun State Police Command, as the search extended into border communities and dense forest regions between Oyo and Ogun states. The coordinated effort ensured the victim’s captors had no escape route.
The operation was carried out under the close supervision of the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, who personally monitored the rescue from start to finish. Following hours of intensive tracking and tactical maneuvers, the victim was located, freed unharmed, and immediately taken into protective custody.
The rescued Egyptian is currently undergoing thorough medical examinations at the Police Hospital, Eleyele, to ensure his physical and psychological well-being before being officially reunited with his family. Authorities emphasized that his safe return without financial negotiations sends a strong message to criminal gangs that abduction will not be tolerated.
The Oyo State Police Command also seized the opportunity to urge residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and promptly report suspicious movements or individuals. They assured the public that more proactive measures are being put in place to curb kidnapping and restore full confidence in public safety across the state.
