The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted claims circulating in the media that former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello is currently in its custody.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson, clarified that the ex-governor is not in their holding facility. The statement underlines that Bello remains at large, with a warrant for his arrest still in effect.
Bello has been declared wanted by the EFCC on charges of allegedly laundering ₦80.2 billion. Despite media reports suggesting otherwise, the EFCC confirms that he continues to evade arrest.
“Media reports today that a former Governor of Kogi State, Mr. Yahaya Bello is in the holding facility of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is incorrect. The Commission wishes to state that Bello is not in its custody,” Oyewale stated.
“Bello, already declared wanted by the Commission for alleged ₦80.2 billion money laundering charges, remains wanted with a subsisting warrant for his arrest,” Oyewale added.
