Former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, has firmly denied the allegations that his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stockpiled funds with the intention of buying votes in the ongoing Edo State gubernatorial election.
According to a report by GistReel, Oshiomhole, who is currently serving as the senator representing Edo North at the National Assembly, addressed the issue after casting his vote at Iyamho, Ward 10 Unit 01 in Estako West Local Government Area. He dismissed the accusations as baseless and laughable, emphasizing that there is no evidence of such activities taking place.
Oshiomhole further stated that the election process had been peaceful, with no reports of violence from any part of the state, as voters were turning out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.
He remarked, “It is laughable when I hear this kind of allegation. You have been here, did you see anywhere where they are sharing money? People turned out in large numbers to vote for us because they wanted good governance.”
Oshiomhole highlighted the significant public support the APC enjoys, attributing it to the positive impact of his administration during his tenure as governor. He stated that people came out to support the party, not because of any financial incentives, but due to the tangible results of his previous governance efforts.
“During our campaign, people came out to see me, not because I wanted to give them something but because of what I have done for them while I was in office as governor,” Oshiomhole explained. He further noted that while the infrastructures he established over a decade ago still stand strong, those built by the current administration have deteriorated within a year, underscoring the difference in governance quality.
Oshiomhole concluded by expressing the sentiments of some citizens who have remarked that since his departure from the government, they haven’t seen the real presence of government in their communities, which reinforces their support for the APC in the ongoing election.
