Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), Africa’s largest conglomerate, has once again issued a stern warning to truck drivers and independent operators who continue to unlawfully brand their vehicles with the company’s official logo, despite repeated public cautions and corporate advisories.
According to a fresh statement released by the company, the unauthorized use of the Dangote logo on trucks and trailers not owned or operated by its subsidiaries or contractors has become a recurring problem, one that poses significant reputational risks and creates confusion among members of the public. The company stressed that such actions are not only misleading but also capable of damaging its hard-earned brand integrity.
Dangote explained that several reported road accidents and other negative incidents involving vehicles fraudulently displaying its logo have been wrongly attributed to the company, causing what it described as “serious embarrassment” and unnecessary backlash against the Dangote Group. This, it noted, undermines the trust it has built with Nigerians and its global partners over the years.
“We have repeatedly cautioned truckers and other unauthorized operators to desist from using our logo on their vehicles. Unfortunately, despite several warnings, these practices have continued, largely for personal gains or motives unknown to us. Moving forward, we will intensify our monitoring efforts and, in collaboration with security agencies, take decisive legal action against offenders. Our brand identity must not be misused,” the company reiterated.
In addition to enforcement, Dangote urged members of the public and media outlets to be more vigilant when reporting accidents or incidents involving trucks. The company emphasized the need for proper fact-checking, noting that misinformation has often unfairly linked tragedies to its operations when, in reality, the vehicles involved had no connection with its fleet.
Dangote further highlighted the scale of its logistics operations, pointing out that it manages one of the largest commercial truck fleets in Africa. With over 12,000 trucks currently operational in Nigeria, including more than 3,000 managed by verified third-party contractors, the company plays a crucial role in moving raw materials, cement, sugar, and other essential goods across the nation and beyond.
On a typical day, over 6,000 of these vehicles are actively deployed in the company’s vast supply chain, supporting critical industrial and consumer markets. This network sustains more than 36,000 direct and indirect jobs, underlining Dangote’s role as a major employer and contributor to Nigeria’s economy.
The conglomerate maintained that safeguarding its brand and ensuring public trust remains a top priority. It assured Nigerians that concrete measures, including stricter surveillance, collaborations with law enforcement, and legal prosecutions, will be implemented to permanently curb the unlawful display of its logo by unaffiliated truckers.
