The Dangote Group, in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has rolled out a fresh training and sensitisation programme for its truck drivers following increasing reports of accidents linked to reckless driving. The move comes amid public outcry and demands for accountability after a series of tragic incidents, including the heartbreaking loss of Phyna’s sister, the younger sibling of the Big Brother Naija winner, in a road crash involving a Dangote truck.

In viral videos circulating across social media, dozens of Dangote truck drivers could be seen assembled in a hall receiving lectures on safety protocols, road etiquette, and compliance with national traffic regulations. The safety session, led by FRSC officials, highlighted the need for caution on highways, adherence to speed limits, vehicle maintenance, and the importance of avoiding reckless overtaking. Drivers were also reminded of the devastating impact of their negligence on innocent lives, families, and communities.

Reports indicate that fewer than 50 drivers attended the training, sparking mixed reactions among Nigerians. While some citizens applauded the initiative as a step in the right direction, others expressed doubts about its effectiveness, questioning whether such workshops would truly address the deep-rooted issues of indiscipline and poor enforcement within the trucking sector. Critics also raised concerns about whether the drivers attending the session represented the actual individuals on the roads, with claims that the real culprits often escape such accountability exercises.

This development has stirred heated discussions online, as many Nigerians continue to demand stricter regulation of heavy-duty trucks, stricter licensing processes, and harsher penalties for errant drivers. Road safety advocates have also urged the Dangote Group to make the trainings mandatory for all drivers across its fleet and to establish continuous monitoring systems to ensure lasting behavioural change.
