Chimaroke Nnamani defeated by Kevin Chukwu of Labour Party in senatorial election

Chimaroke Nnamani, former governor of Enugu state has lost the senatorial election to Kevin Chukwu of the Labour Party. The election, which was initially scheduled for February 25, was postponed due to the murder of the former Labour Party flagbearer, Oyibo Chukwu, who is Kevin's older brother. The election was eventually held on Saturday, March 18, and Kevin Chukwu emerged as the winner with 69,136 votes while Chimaroke Nnamani scored 48,701 votes.

Chimaroke Nnamani has since conceded defeat, acknowledging that the outcome of the election reflected the wishes of the majority of constituents in Enugu East senatorial district. He said, "the people have spoken," and wished the Senator-Elect, Kevin Chukwu, a successful tenure in the upper legislative chamber. Chimaroke also attributed the result of the election to the current trend of Enugu state residents identifying with the Labour Party in the South East zone of the country, saying, "the result of the election is in tandem with the rave of the moment."

In his statement, Chimaroke Nnamani urged his supporters to accept the outcome of the election in good faith and remain calm. He also expressed his gratitude to his supporters and campaign team, saying, "I thank you all for your unwavering support and dedication throughout this campaign. We fought hard, but the people have made their choice."

Kevin Chukwu, the Senator-Elect, has yet to release a statement regarding his victory, but it is expected that he will be celebrating with his supporters and outlining his plans for representing Enugu East senatorial district in the upper legislative chamber. The people of Enugu East senatorial district will be looking forward to seeing the impact of his representation in the coming years.
