President Muhammadu Buhari has emphasized that the 2023 elections in Nigeria have demonstrated the importance and power of Nigerian voters, as they cannot be underestimated. The President made this remark while speaking at an event held in Dutse, Jigawa State on Thursday, April 6, 2023. According to a statement issued by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Buhari expressed his admiration for the maturity and sophistication of Nigerian democracy, adding that the outcome of the elections revealed the political understanding of the ordinary citizen, who is often underrated.
Buhari also noted that the assumption that a governor will automatically transition to the Senate after completing an eight-year tenure in office is no longer a given, as Nigerian voters have become more politically aware and involved. He further added that the political terrain will become more challenging in the future, and politicians cannot afford to underestimate the Nigerian voter any longer.
