Governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) have responded to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party's rejection of the principal officers of the National Assembly.
In a recent development, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas had announced the names of the principal officers for both the Red and Green Chambers of the National Assembly.
However, the APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, dismissed the selection of the new National Assembly leadership, stating that the party was not officially informed and referring to the report as a mere rumor.
During a meeting with the Progressive Governors' Forum (PGF) led by Senator Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, Adamu expressed his rejection of the announced principal officers, citing a lack of communication from the party.
In response to Adamu's stance, Uzodinma clarified that the APC chairman did not claim that Akpabio and Abbas independently chose the principal officers. The governor attributed the disagreement between the party leadership and the National Assembly presiding officers to a communication gap and emphasized that both sides enjoy the support of the Progressive Governors' Forum.
Uzodinma further stated, "The Chairman never said they are on their own. The National Assembly leadership belongs to our great party, and they are members of our party and enjoy our support. If there is any way there is a communication gap anywhere, we will make it up, and we have our internal mechanism of resolving such things. The National Assembly leadership enjoys the support of the Progressive Governors' Forum and that of our party. We don't have any problem at all."
