Prof Sola Adeyeye, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, has expressed admiration for outgoing Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for his peaceful and understated exit from office. In an exclusive interview with The PUNCH in Abuja, Adeyeye, a former Chief Whip of the 7th Senate, commended Osinbajo for not succumbing to the usual grandeur and extravagance associated with political transitions in the region.
Adeyeye's remarks came in response to the criticism that followed a viral video showing Osinbajo and his wife, Dolapo, arriving at the presidential wing of Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos from Abuja shortly after the handover ceremonies in the nation's capital. The video captured their modest entrance, devoid of the customary pomp and fanfare reserved for high-ranking politicians in Nigeria.
In addressing the comments made towards the video, Sen Adeyeye expressed his disappointment and defended Osinbajo's approach, stating that the Vice President could have easily organized a large gathering with staff and followers, distributing gifts and making a spectacle of his arrival. However, Adeyeye applauded Osinbajo for not resorting to such ostentation, emphasizing that the ability to orchestrate such displays often stems from a deep involvement in corrupt and self-serving politics. He concluded by extending his prayers for divine mercy upon the Professor of Law and his family.
