The appellate court sitting in Abuja has upheld Mr Ademola Adeleke as the governor of Osun State. This decision comes after the Osun State tribunal had previously sacked Adeleke as Governor months after his victory, citing issues such as over-voting in 749 polling units in the 10 LG areas of the state. However, in Adeleke's appeal, a three-member panel of justices decided on Friday that the election tribunal had fallen short in finding that Gboyega Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress had established their claim of over-voting.

The court of appeal had faulted the tribunal for basing its decision on oral witness testimony of alleged over-voting, as the information on the BVAs and voter registration are typically considered in such cases. In addition to overturning the tribunal's decision, the court awarded the All Progressive Congress, APC, and its candidate Gboyega Oyetola N500,000 in costs in its lead judgment, which was delivered by Justice Mohammed Lawal.
