The court ruling in question upheld the Labour Party’s National Convention, which took place in Nnewi, Anambra State, on March 27, 2024. During this convention, Julius Abure was re-elected as the National Chairman of the party for a second term, a decision that was being challenged by opponents within the party. Abure, however, made it clear that he harbored no ill feelings towards those who sought to undermine him during this period. Instead, he chose to forgive them, invoking the teachings of Jesus Christ by stating, “I forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.”

He also addressed the party’s former Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in his statement, urging him to step in and help unite the party. Abure noted that Peter Obi had a critical role to play in fostering unity within the Labour Party, especially as the party aims to rebuild its structures and strengthen its presence across Nigeria in preparation for future elections.

Abure took time to thank the judges involved in the various rulings that upheld his leadership, starting with Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja. The ruling, according to Abure, affirmed the legitimacy of the Labour Party’s leadership and restored confidence in the rule of law. He also acknowledged Justice Omotosho of the Federal High Court, whose earlier judgment validating the Labour Party’s National Convention in Nnewi laid the foundation for subsequent favorable rulings. Additionally, Justice C.K. Nwankwo of the Abia High Court received praise from Abure for resisting external pressure and avoiding granting interim orders that would have harmed the party.

Reflecting on the legal battle, Abure emphasized the importance of repentance and restitution for those who had attempted to undermine the party’s leadership. While he offered forgiveness, he urged those responsible to reflect on their actions and work towards mending the damage caused to the party. He expressed hope that, through repentance, these individuals would come forward to make amends and contribute to the party’s efforts in moving forward.

Looking ahead, Abure shared his plans to focus on rebuilding the Labour Party’s structures, reconnecting with the grassroots, and fostering unity among the party’s members. He stressed the importance of healing old wounds and emerging stronger from the internal strife. Abure expressed confidence that, with the collective efforts of the party’s members, the Labour Party would continue to fight for the common man and the betterment of Nigeria.

In conclusion, Abure extended his heartfelt appreciation to the judiciary for standing firm in the face of adversity and delivering justice. He also acknowledged the steadfastness of the Labour Party’s supporters, members, and well-wishers who stood by the party during the crisis. Abure expressed his gratitude for their unwavering belief in the party’s cause and their dedication to building a stronger and united Labour Party. He reaffirmed his commitment to working for a Labour Party that truly represents the hopes and aspirations of every Nigerian.

Abure’s statement was a call for unity, forgiveness, and forward-thinking as the Labour Party prepares for the challenges ahead. With the leadership issue now resolved, he urged all members to come together and build a future rooted in justice, democracy, and the common good of the Nigerian people.
