Ukraine [/b]has made a significant contribution to alleviating Nigeria's food crisis by donating 25,000 tons of wheat. The initiative, led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, known as the “Grain from Ukraine,” is part of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) response to the urgent situation affecting over 1.3 million people in Nigeria's northeastern region. This collaborative effort involved support from various nations, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Luxembourg, Norway, Republic of Korea, and Sweden. These countries joined forces to cover the transportation costs and facilitate the distribution of the donated wheat to families in need.

David Stevenson, the WFP representative and Country Director in Nigeria, expressed gratitude, stating, “We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Government of Ukraine, partners, and donors for their unwavering support through the Grain from Ukraine Initiative. This collaborative effort plays a crucial role in alleviating suffering and maintaining human dignity in areas facing conflict and food price increase.” He emphasized the importance of collective action to restore and unlock the agricultural potential of northeast Nigeria, making it a significant contributor to the country's food supply.
