Simi revealed that their paths first crossed at one of her shows held at Bogobiri in Lagos. At the time, she was already a well-known figure in the gospel community, and Adekunle Gold had heard her album, which caught his attention.

However, their initial connection was made through Facebook. Adekunle Gold had persistently messaged Simi on the platform, unaware that she had not been active and hadn't seen his messages until a significant turning point in their relationship.

The turning point occurred when Adekunle Gold attended one of Simi's performances at Bogobiri. Simi recalled the moment, saying, "He came to see me perform. I was like, 'Oh hey!' He was like, 'Oh! I'm such a fan.' And I was like, 'Okay!'"

Simi admitted that she found Adekunle Gold's persistent efforts endearing, and it was his genuine niceness that ultimately won her over. Months later, she finally gave in to his advances, and their romantic journey officially began.

The couple nurtured their love and bond for five years, embracing their journey together, before finally tying the knot in a private ceremony in 2019.

In Simi's own words, "In the gospel community, I was pretty well known. And he [Adekunle Gold] had heard my album at that time as well. He has been reaching out to me on Facebook, DMing me on Facebook. But I didn't see those DMs until we started dating. I don't remember how we eventually linked up again. I had a show at Bogobiri, and he turned up. He was very slim at that time with white BYC and jeans. He came to see me perform. I was like, 'Oh hey! He was like, 'Oh! I'm such a fan.' And I was like, 'Okay!' [laughs]. I don't know, he must have been persistent because there is a friendship that came out from there. I thought he was a really nice guy. We became friends, and later that year, he asked me out. I mean, as much as I was sounding like all that, I still didn't really have nothing. He was a nice guy, and I was like, 'Okay, I don't mind a nice guy' [laughs]."
