Sam Larry, who has been accused of mistreating the late singer Mohbad, has asserted that he paid the singer a sum of ₦2 million for a performance at his mother's burial, which the singer failed to fulfill. This revelation is reportedly part of a statement made by Sam Larry, who is currently in the custody of the Nigerian police force.
According to his statement, "Two years ago, I gave ₦2 million to Mohbad to perform at my mother's annual remembrance concert in Ikorodu." However, the singer did not fulfill his commitment, citing health issues. When Sam Larry requested a refund, Mohbad claimed to have lost both his phone and money during an NDLEA raid. He further stated that he was financially strained due to his departure from Marlian Records and could not repay the ₦2 million.
"I left it at that. Later, I heard that this same boy was having a music video shoot next door, practically on the next street to my house. So, I went there to ask for my money again," Sam Larry continued. This led to a five-minute argument, during which one of Mohbad's friends allegedly agreed to facilitate the repayment. However, as of the time of Sam Larry's statement, not a single kobo had been returned, despite the incident occurring early the previous year.
"I traveled to Kenya to find a new African act that can perform at my mother's concert this year," Sam Larry stated, emphasizing that he had been away since August 20th and was unaware of developments beyond what was reported in blogs and the press. He expressed a lack of knowledge about Mohbad's residence, movements, or medical situation, asserting that he was preoccupied with other matters.
Concluding his statement, Sam Larry declared, "That is my story, case closed. I came here willingly and happily. I know nothing about how the musician died."
