Michael Adebayo Olayinka, known as Ruger, explains his departure from D’Prince's Jonzing World, alleging exploitation and misuse of his funds to support new artists within the label.
Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Ruger aired his grievances while expressing gratitude to his former record label for providing him with exposure.
According to Ruger, the money generated from his endeavors was diverted to finance the discovery of new talents and compensate other musicians associated with the company.
He disclosed that although a renegotiation of his music contract was on the table, he opted out due to the label's failure to facilitate the growth of his personal brand to his desired level.
In a series of tweets, Ruger criticized the label's management for its lack of transparency and exclusion of him from crucial decisions impacting his career and personal brand.
He stated:
“While I am grateful for Jonzing World's role in introducing me to the world, I could not continue with them due to their complacency with the income generated from my efforts, hindering my desired progress.
The intention was to renegotiate the contract, but I could not envision another five years without tangible action. They used my earnings to sponsor new artists, leaving me in the dark and lacking transparency. It's amusing. What can I say? There are many issues to address, but they might as well wait for me at Ikoyi Link Bridge to stab me incessantly.
I voiced my concerns and frustrations, but some insisted that it was not their modus operandi. Yet, I returned to HQ to receive insincere hugs and handshakes. Nothing changed. I am beyond exasperated 😂😂
Nevertheless, I am proud of my accomplishments. Performing at prestigious festivals, touring Europe and Canada again. I don't care; I'll be boastful 😂😂 because these are achievements they failed to attain for me. BS!!!”
