Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has sparked widespread online debate and strong reactions after openly criticizing women who willingly choose to become second wives. Her words, shared in a lengthy post on her Instagram account, were firm and unapologetic, igniting conversations across social media platforms and within Nollywood circles. The actress aligned herself with a cleric’s sermon that also condemned the practice of women marrying already married men, declaring that such actions are selfish, destructive, and morally wrong.
According to Edochie, women who knowingly decide to marry into an existing marriage are doing so out of greed and disregard for the emotional well-being of the first wife and her children. She argued that these decisions are built on the tears, pain, and heartbreak of another woman, stressing that no matter how society tries to justify it, there can never be true honor or dignity in becoming a second wife. In her post, she firmly stated that rather than gaining respect, such women invite only shame, misfortune, and curses into their lives.
Edochie’s post went further to deliver a spiritual warning, cautioning that women who build their so-called happiness on the sorrow of another will eventually face the same pain themselves. She declared that karma would always find its way back, insisting that the tears and anguish caused to the first wife would revisit the second wife in equal measure.
