Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has accomplished a goal that he set out to achieve three years ago, and he is currently filled with joy as he talks about it. Recently, the talented artist captivated a major city in India, as well as the concert venue where he held the first leg of his highly-anticipated ‘Rema Calm Down India Tour.'

During a 2020 interview, Rema expressed his desire to take Afrobeats to India and leave a lasting impression. “You see Afrobeats, I want to take it to the next level. I want us to get into the India zone. Why can’t we shut down India?” he passionately stated during the interview. After three years of unwavering determination, Rema was ecstatic to finally achieve his dream of shutting down India. He took to his Twitter page to share a throwback video of the interview where he expressed his gratitude to the country and everyone who believed in him, tweeting, “3 years later I did it! Thank you India for your overwhelming love & my heart to those who BELIEVED.”

Rema’s first electrifying performance took place in Delhi, with upcoming shows scheduled in Mumbai on Saturday and Hyderabad on Sunday. During an interview with PTI, Rema expressed his love for Indian music and his desire to collaborate with artists from the country. He praised the emotional vocals and captivating melodies of Indian music, stating that he has been playing a lot of it since his arrival in India. He particularly expressed his admiration for renowned Indian musician AR Rahman.

The artist embraced Indian culture during his visit, adorning garlands around his neck, donning a turban, and even wearing a red bindi on his forehead. Indian dancers performed to his hit track “Calm Down” in their own folk style, further showcasing the appreciation and enthusiasm of the Indian audience.
