Nollywood actress Opeyemi Aiyeola has addressed the confusion surrounding the recent tragic news shared by actor Ibrahim Chatta about the loss of someone he described as his son.
The misunderstanding began when Ibrahim Chatta posted an emotional message on Instagram expressing his grief over the painful loss of a young man he referred to as his son. The heartfelt post led many fans and colleagues to assume that he had lost his biological child, prompting an outpouring of condolences from social media users, colleagues, and fellow actors in the Nollywood industry.
Among those who offered support was Opeyemi Aiyeola, who, in an earlier post, encouraged Chatta to remain strong during this difficult period. She also prayed for Allah’s comfort and solace for him and his family, joining the rest of the public in expressing sympathy for the actor’s supposed loss.
However, in a recent clarification, Opeyemi Aiyeola explained that the young man Ibrahim Chatta mourned was not his biological son but his godson, who held a very special place in his heart and was like a son to him. She acknowledged the emotional toll this loss had taken on everyone involved and extended her prayers for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul, highlighting the depth of grief experienced by Chatta and those close to the family.
She wrote on social media, “Ibrahim Chatta didn’t lose his biological son but a godson, who is also like a son to him. May his pure soul continue to rest peacefully. It’s been an extremely emotional ride so far. God have mercy.”

Following Opeyemi’s clarification, a check on Ibrahim Chatta’s Instagram page revealed that he had edited his original post to align with the explanation, confirming that the tragedy involved his godson and not his biological child. This adjustment helped clear the air and provided closure to fans and well-wishers who had been sending messages of condolence under the initial misinterpretation.
The incident has since sparked conversations online about the importance of understanding and verifying sensitive news before assuming details, as well as the profound impact that non-biological relationships, such as godparenting, can have in someone’s life, reflecting the depth of love and connection that extends beyond blood relations.
