The OAP had made the comment in reaction to the news of Achraf Hakimi's divorce, where his wife was requesting 50% of his assets. In a video posted on social media, Nedu said:

I don't know if you've seen the video, message or pictures of that PSG footballer they call Hakimi, who is 24 years old, and his wife is asking for a divorce. And the divorce she is asking for, she is talking about 50% of what the guy has. You see, marriage is dead. In fact, if people believed anything about marriage before, the things going on now with marriage all over the world, people do not want to enter marriage again. It's most women, some of you, that make some people not want to enter marriage because you have turned it to a poverty alleviation scheme.

After facing backlash for his comments, Nedu took to social media to issue an apology to those who were affected by his statements. He emphasized that his salary comes from the pockets of his listeners and supporters, and therefore, he has no choice but to apologize when necessary.
