Popular Nigerian media personality, Dorcas Shola Fapson, widely recognized as Ms DSF, recently addressed the viral reports suggesting that her friend and fellow media star, Toke Makinwa, had secretly gotten married to her longtime partner, Farouk Umar. Ms DSF has now clarified that the information circulating online, fueled by her own comments, was nothing more than a joke, which was taken out of context.
The rumors about Makinwa’s secret wedding surfaced over the weekend when photos of the duo attending a private event labeled as a “Thanksgiving” ceremony went viral on social media. Fans and media outlets were quick to jump to conclusions, interpreting the gathering as a discreet wedding celebration between the two.
Adding fuel to the fire, Ms DSF hinted through a series of social media posts, implying that the couple had indeed tied the knot. However, the situation took a different turn when Ms DSF posted a video on her page, retracting her earlier statements and providing much-needed clarity on the matter.
In the video, Ms DSF expressed that her earlier remarks were entirely made in jest and should not have been taken seriously. She addressed the bloggers and media outlets, stating, “Bloggers please, I’m just joking. They are not getting married. Toke is just doing thanksgiving for her birthday,” thereby dismissing the rumors of any wedding taking place between Toke Makinwa and Farouk Umar.
Ms DSF went on to lightly criticize the media’s tendency to jump to conclusions without verifying facts. She humorously captioned the video, “I play too much and bloggers eat sh*t too fast,” showing her frustration with the spread of unverified rumors. Her statement managed to alleviate the tension and brought some laughter from her followers who had initially believed the news.
It is also important to note that Toke Makinwa has yet to make any official statement regarding the wedding rumors. Her silence on the matter has left fans wondering, though the clarification by Ms DSF seems to have put many of the circulating speculations to rest.
As a reminder, Toke Makinwa was previously married to Nigerian businessman Maje Ayida from 2014 until their divorce was finalized in 2017. The couple's split was surrounded by media attention due to Maje Ayida’s infidelity and the revelation of his involvement with another woman, who became pregnant during their marriage. Since the divorce, Makinwa has focused on building her career and thriving in the entertainment industry, while keeping her personal life relatively private.
The viral event, initially misinterpreted as a secret wedding, was eventually clarified by Ms DSF as a simple birthday Thanksgiving celebration for Toke Makinwa. The incident had already garnered widespread attention across social media platforms before Ms DSF’s clarification put the situation into perspective.
