At the time, they would spread mats on the bare floor to sleep, with his mother using wrappers to make the sleeping area slightly more comfortable.

Skales further explained that things eventually got better when they managed to move into a boys’ quarters (BQ), which felt like an upgrade compared to their hut. However, he stressed that life was still very challenging, and those memories remain with him till today.

Skales recalls living without a TV

The singer narrated that growing up in such an environment, he never had the luxury of owning or even seeing a TV until he got signed to Banky W’s record label, EME. He revealed how amazed he was at having his first television in his own room, and even joked about switching it on and off repeatedly out of excitement and disbelief.

He noted that coming from such a humble background to where he is now feels surreal, and sometimes he pauses to reflect on how far he has come despite all the struggles.
