Celebrity chef Hilda Baci, widely celebrated for her record-breaking cooking marathon in 2023, has officially embarked on yet another ambitious Guinness World Record attempt — this time, to prepare the largest pot of jollof rice in history. The event, which commenced in Lagos, Nigeria, was flagged off with the support of her family, fans, and well-wishers from across the nation, with her mother leading the session in heartfelt prayers.
Hilda, who gained global attention last year after cooking non-stop for 100 hours to secure her spot in the Guinness Book of Records, is determined once again to etch her name in history. This new challenge is not just about size and endurance but also a bold representation of African cuisine on the world stage, spotlighting the beloved Nigerian Jollof rice as a unifying delicacy of the continent.

Before the first grains of rice hit the massive pot, Hilda and her mother took time to pray for success, strength, and protection throughout the entire process. The emotional scene drew loud cheers, tears, and applause from those present, with many acknowledging the significant role her mother continues to play in her journey. The crowd, already buzzing with excitement, described the opening prayer as the “perfect recipe for success.”
In a short clip shared on her Instagram, Hilda revealed her enthusiasm, writing: “Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! 🫧✨ I personally rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself 💚. In just a few hours, this same pot will be home to thousands of servings of Nigerian Jollof history in the making.”
What makes Hilda’s Guinness World Record attempt extraordinary?
The chef is attempting to use a custom-built 22,619-litre steel pot, estimated to measure about 6 meters in diameter. With its enormous capacity, the pot is expected to hold enough food to feed roughly 10,000 people. To achieve this feat, Hilda and her team have gathered over 250 bags of rice, along with hundreds of litres of oil, tomatoes, peppers, and spices, aiming to fill the pot to at least 80% of its volume.
But the challenge is not solely about records. Beyond the fanfare, Hilda has revealed that the food prepared will be distributed among attendees and shared with orphanages, shelters, and other charitable organizations across Lagos. This effort reflects her commitment not only to promoting Nigerian cuisine globally but also to using her platform to give back to her community.
