Happie Boys seek Apostle Chibuzor’s forgiveness in church

Former viral sensation and ex-security guards, widely known as the Happie Boys, have made headlines once again after appearing at the Omega Power Ministries (OPM) headquarters in Port Harcourt, where they openly begged Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere for forgiveness during a live service. This comes two years after their much-publicized deportation from Cyprus, the European country where the OPM pastor had sent them on a fully funded scholarship.

It will be recalled that the duo first came into the spotlight when a video of them dancing joyfully while on duty as security guards at a popular eatery went viral on social media. The incident led to their dismissal from the job. Moved by their story, Apostle Chibuzor offered them a lifeline by granting them scholarships to further their education abroad, an act that earned him widespread praise at the time.

In 2022, the Happie Boys arrived in Cyprus, full of hope and anticipation. Unfortunately, their time there took a negative turn as they reportedly abandoned their studies and indulged in a flamboyant lifestyle. Reports alleged that they mismanaged the financial support provided to them, squandering it on frivolous activities rather than focusing on their education and future.

Fallout with their benefactor

Tensions soon arose when Apostle Chibuzor suspended his financial support after noticing their lack of seriousness. Instead of retracing their steps, the Happie Boys lashed out publicly, criticizing and insulting the pastor. Their actions triggered widespread backlash, with many condemning their ingratitude. The rift deepened to the point that the OPM founder reportedly placed curses on them out of disappointment and frustration.

By September 2023, the situation had worsened further when the Happie Boys were deported back to Nigeria after failing to sustain themselves abroad. Upon their return, they publicly apologized to the pastor, admitting that they had erred in their conduct. However, many Nigerians remained skeptical about their sincerity, considering their past outbursts against the man who once lifted them from obscurity.

A new apology at OPM church

In a new twist, the Happie Boys recently appeared at the OPM church service, where they fell on their knees and begged Apostle Chibuzor for forgiveness before the congregation. They confessed that their previous attacks on the pastor had not been entirely their idea, alleging that an unnamed man had deceived them with false promises of relocating them to the United States if they continued attacking the cleric online. According to the duo, this manipulation fueled their reckless behavior and strained relationship with their benefactor.

“It was a man that kept pushing us, saying he would take us to America if we continued talking against Daddy OPM. We regret listening to him,” they revealed in a now-viral video recorded during the service.

Mixed reactions from Nigerians

The apology has stirred mixed reactions on social media. While some Nigerians believe the boys have truly learned their lesson and deserve forgiveness, others insist that they are only seeking sympathy after running out of options. Many netizens also criticized their explanation, questioning why two grown men could so easily be influenced into biting the hand that once fed them.

@askiaz__ commented: “So they’re saying someone convinced them to talk bad things about their helper and they did? Like your helper!?? And two of them none could say NO?? Please, they need to go their separate ways.”

@Ruch_Trc20 added: “If you know how Cyprus be, you no go say these boys blow money.”

While the pastor’s forgiveness might seem noble, it also questions enabling such behavior. People should learn from this, not just pity them. Truth be told, it’s a warning about biting the hand that feeds you.”
