Nigerian film actress Habibat Jinad has revealed how her senior colleague Mide Martins pressured her into bleaching her skin.
During an interview with Biola Bayo on the talk show Talk To B, she recounted an incident on a movie set where Mide Martins criticized her skin tone.
According to Jinad, they were filming Afeez Owo's movie when a colleague made a mistake and she was among those reprimanded.
She disclosed that Mide Martins publicly criticized her complexion, likening her face to that of a monkey.
Jinad further explained that Mide Martins' comments deeply affected her, leading her to consider bleaching her skin, which she eventually did in 2012.
The actress recounted: “During a rehearsal on Afeez Owo’s set, an incident occurred where a colleague of mine committed an offense and despite not being responsible, we were all punished. Mrs. Mide Martins was present, along with my boss and others, and she compared my skin to that of a monkey.
“Her remarks deeply affected me. She even criticized my complexion, stating that I was too dark, prompting me to contemplate bleaching my skin to appease her and others.”
