Senator Douye Diri, the Governor of Bayelsa State, expressed concerns about efforts to hinder his second term in office, asserting his confidence in thwarting such attempts at the Tribunal, just as he did before.
Speaking at the late Pa Abraham Joseph Michael Diri's one-year memorial service inside St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, Diri revealed his anticipation of being sworn in for a second term on Wednesday, February 14, following his victory over Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 11, 2023 governorship election.
Addressing the alleged attempt to rig, Diri stated, “A tribunal that you wanted to rig and you were stopped from rigging, and we even accepted some of your fake results from Nembe-Bassambiri, and you are the one going to tribunal."
He highlighted the questionable tactics of his opponents, mentioning attempts to subpoena the police commissioner for a tribunal testimony, emphasizing that the police's role is security, not result preparation.
Diri attributed his victory to divine intervention, stating, “We have a master strategist who is Master Jesus. We will stop them from rigging at the tribunal again." Vowing to be vigilant at the Election Petitions Tribunal, he declared, "I will follow them bumper to bumper."
