Popular comedian and content creator Muhammadu Bashir Abdulai, alias Father DMW, shared a harrowing tale of how he escaped being forcibly recruited into the Boko Haram terrorist group by fleeing his hometown, Maiduguri, and disguising himself as a woman.
Speaking in an interview with media outlet, Vanzu TV, Father DMW revealed that the terrorist group was on a recruiting spree, forcefully enlisting young people and arming them for battle. Fearing for his life, he decided to escape to Lagos, Nigeria's commercial capital.
Upon reaching Lagos, Father DMW had to fend for himself and started working as a bike rider (okada man). However, his life took a positive turn when he caught the attention of Afrobeats singer, Davido. Davido offered him opportunities to run errands, which eventually led to his breakthrough and rise to fame in the entertainment industry.
Recounting the dangerous situation back in Maiduguri, Father DMW said, "Boko Haram dem go and kill everybody. Like me, if dem see me, they just give me gun, if I never follow them, they will now start to kill me. When they entered, I wear hijab like woman. Do make up, put breasts, y*nsh, everything to escape. Because if they know say you be man, if dem commot that hijab, no be shoot dem go shoot you o, na knife dem go cut you."
