Hardcore fans of the late Nigerian rapper Oladapo Olaitan Olaonipekun, popularly known as Dagrin, visit his burial ground as they remember him 14 years after his tragic death.
Before his death, Dagrin was considered one of the greatest Nigerian rappers of all time and is recognized for paving the way for indigenous rap in Nigeria.
Dagrin was celebrated for his unique style of rapping in Yoruba, English, and Pidgin English. His music resonated with many, and some of his most popular songs include “Pon Pon Pon” and “Kondo.”
The rapper met his untimely death on April 22, 2010, at the age of 25, following a car accident. He had been in a coma for eight days after his Nissan Maxima collided with a stationary truck in front of the Alakara Police Station in Mushin, Lagos, on April 14, 2010.
Fourteen years after his passing, a devoted group of Nigerians donned tops designed in honor of the late rapper and visited his resting place to pay their respects. This act of remembrance underscores the lasting impact Dagrin has had on his fans and the Nigerian music industry.
