Legendary Nigerian juju music maestro, Ebenezer Obey, has strongly refuted viral rumours alleging that he had passed away or suffered a stroke, dismissing the claims as “lies from the kingdom of darkness.” The 82-year-old icon made this clarification in a new video shared on Instagram, where he appeared in high spirits alongside his two sons. The clip, which captured the veteran joyfully singing, was captioned: “Stop the rumours!!!! Ebenezer Obey is alive and well.”

Addressing the speculation, Obey explained that he had recently travelled to London strictly for personal care and wellness, not because of any health crisis. He lamented the alarming spread of fake news, revealing that some individuals went as far as sharing doctored images of coffins in a bid to validate the false reports. “Everything they have said is nothing but lies that came from the kingdom of darkness. I am alive, I am alive, says the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you very much. I don’t have a stroke. I came to London to look after myself,” he stated firmly.
The revered musician, also known as “Chief Commander,” reassured his teeming fans and well-wishers that he remains in good health. He emphasised that while ageing comes with its natural process of self-care, he has not been afflicted with any debilitating illness as speculated online. Instead, he encouraged his admirers to disregard negative reports and continue to join him in praising God for long life and strength.
This is not the first time the veteran has had to publicly debunk false claims about his health. Similar rumours of his demise surfaced in 2020 and resurfaced earlier this year, each time sparking unnecessary panic among his fans across the globe. Obey described the repeated falsehoods as distractions meant to instill fear and confusion but assured his supporters that he will continue to live joyfully in the service of God and humanity.
The recent Instagram video has since attracted widespread relief and excitement from fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry. Many flooded the comment section with heartfelt prayers, words of encouragement, and messages of gratitude for his resilience and longevity. Admirers expressed joy in seeing him active and radiant, reinforcing his position as one of Nigeria’s most respected cultural icons.
