Beauty brand CEO, Adeola Diiadem.

In her post, she questioned the direct impact of the dollar on items like catfish in the market and criticized vendors for what she deemed as unwarranted price hikes. Diiadem expressed frustration with people taking advantage of the situation and urged others to support local products.

She wrote: “Some Nigerians will not cease to amaze me. How does the dollar affect catfish in the market? How does the increase in the dollar affect basic things? I’m tired of people taking advantage of everything!!! Until hunger finishes everybody, then these idiots increasing foodstuffs will learn!!! How will the poor survive? We need to help ourselves and not keep doing ourselves!!! Even market people that don’t understand what this dollar issue is all about are taking advantage of it!!! This is a lesson for y’all to buy Nigerian!!!!!!”

Reactions to her post:

@CoadedIBK explained: “It’s basic economics. The catfish seller had to sell 100 pieces to take care of all his finances. Now, fuel costs three times more than before, federal universities now cost a lot, he now has to sell 400 to take care of the same expenses, but people are not buying like before so he increases the price by 4 to meet up. Remember the catfish seller also buys rice for 80k now, he must survive. It’s that simple.”

@LaksideJunior noted: “Shey una dey see say school no be scam now.”

@gabbieberyl1 added: “The fact is they will not learn, they have nothing to learn, they are clearly not related to the people affected, just like the government is not blood-related to any of us.”

@Mickyiv4 advised: “Just as English & maths is compulsory to pass WAEC, Economics should be made compulsory too. The ministry of education should consider this. History should be added as well.”
