Yul Edochie's first son, Kambilichukwu, reportedly died after suffering a seizure while playing football with his friends after completing an exam. He was declared dead at the hospital. Following the news of his death, some Nigerians have taken to social media to blame Yul Edochie and his wife for the tragedy. In response to the criticism, Destiny Etiko posted on her page, expressing disappointment in the lack of empathy displayed by those trolling Yul Edochie at such a difficult time. She urged Nigerians to refrain from such insensitive behavior, stating that a human life had been lost and not an animal.
