The GoFundMe initiative came to light a few hours after Jarvis and her boyfriend, Peller, publicly announced the fundraising campaign, urging her followers and fans to contribute towards the substantial sum needed to help address her urgent health needs.

In his appeal, Peller requested that fans offer any support they could, highlighting that the total amount required for the surgery is approximately N30m to ensure that Jarvis receives the necessary medical attention.

However, the campaign has sparked mixed reactions, especially from a dentist on X, known as @Dentalgiorgio, who questioned the accuracy of the N30m figure. He argued that the requested amount far exceeds the actual cost of the surgery and suggested that the procedure, when performed at his own clinic, would cost significantly less. According to him, the entire cost, including tests, biopsy, admission fees, and even feeding, would not surpass N500k, which is just a small fraction of the amount being raised.

“Not to be a spoiler, but this so-called surgery costs about 200k in my centre. Even if you add tests, biopsy, admission charges, and feeding, it’s not up to 500k, let alone a million. This is a detty December fundraising. That’s all I can say,” he commented in response to the video announcing the GoFundMe campaign.

Supporting the dentist’s perspective, another X user, @Phatill, shared that the cost of tumor surgery is indeed far lower than the N30m target. She mentioned that the procedure at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) last year was priced at exactly N405,000, reaffirming the belief that the GoFundMe amount may be exaggerated. “Exactly #405,000 at LASUTH this time last year. Social media is a hard drug,” she added, further fueling the debate surrounding the campaign’s financial transparency.
